A look at the people and personalities appearing at cineplexes nationwide:

4 VIGGO MORTENSEN: He's a ruthless Russian mobster this weekend in "Eastern Promises" for director David Cronenberg. Mortensen is very giddy and up for his next film, called "Appaloosa," for director Ed Harris. The Western is about two pals who police a small town that's under the thumb of a rancher. Renee Zellweger plays a young widow in town. "I can't wait for Ed to direct me in this film because he did such a great job with 'Pollack.' Plus, he's put together a great cast," says Mortensen, who will also act opposite Harris in the film.

In his spare time, Viggo has been dabbling in his two hobbies: painting and photography. "I have a big show soon in Denmark of both my photos and paintings." Why photography? "It sharpens your attention. Plus it's very good for an actor to be very aware of your surroundings and watch the colors and shades change. It gives you the muscle to pay attention to life and all the little extras."
